Town Hall Meeting Slated for Chestertown Pilot Project
Session intended to engage public in community visioning process

Queenstown, Maryland June 28, 2007 - Members of the public are invited to attend a town hall meeting that will kick-off a yearlong visioning process for nearly 500 acres in North Chestertown. The meeting, which will be held as part of the Chestertown Mayor and Town Council July Meeting, will take place on Monday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Chestertown Town Hall.

The Eastern Shore Land Conservancy, a private, nonprofit land conservation organization dedicated to the preservation of farmland and habitat on the Eastern Shore, the Kent County Commissioners and the town recently announced a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU calls for ESLC, the Kent County Commissioners and the town to work together with citizens to determine a master plan for the property known as Hopewell Farm and Peterson Farm, to influence the future destiny of Chestertown.

"This town hall meeting is an important first step to make sure we achieve full transparency in this community visioning process," said Meredith Lathbury, ESLC's Director of Land Conservation. "We urge citizens to attend this session and become informed and involved in this important process as it unfolds over the next year."

The community visioning process will allow county and local governments as well as the public to work together to create a vision for the 496 acres. The master plan could potentially incorporates concepts such as a permanent greenbelt for the northern edge of town, protection of riparian land and other sensitive natural features, public open space and a design that is consistent with the scale, pace and character of Chestertown.
