Natural Solutions To Protect Our Communities

Over the last few weeks, ESLC has been promoting its workshop series titled Solutions for a Changing Delmarva to help Delmarva residents learn about climate issues in their community. We hosted the third workshop, Natural Solutions to Protect Our Communities, on Tuesday, February 23rd.

For those who missed the workshop or those who had to leave early or those who simply want to revisit the night’s conversations — the workshop was recorded and you may access it below.

This workshop featured a keynote presentation from Collin O’Mara, President of the National Wildlife Federation, who outlined the numerous ways that investments in natural resources equal investments in protection against climate change. Jessica Grannis of the National Audubon Society and Katie Spidalieri of the Georgetown Climate Center shared best practices from across the country about projects and policies which could be applied here on Delmarva for promoting nature-based climate adaptation solutions. Kahlil Kettering with The Nature Conservancy closed the evening out by sharing lessons from his work conducting natural stormwater management projects in Washington, DC. Kahlil drove home the valuable lesson that nature should be embraced in all settings, not just in rural environments or protected open spaces.

Please keep an eye out for information on the next workshop in the series: How You Can Make An Impact In Your Community. You can expect to hear more about it in the coming weeks!

Lastly, if you enjoyed and benefited from the workshops so far please consider making a donation to support our continued efforts of protecting the land, towns, and people we love. We would greatly appreciate your generosity and help with making our home, a home for future generations to thrive.
