The Eastern Shore is a unique agricultural landscape surrounded by urban and ex-urban communities that are slowly encroaching on farmland. Our landscape faces a variety of challenges including development pressure, environmental issues, and the demand for solar power to support data centers. ESLC has been at the forefront of preserving habitat, farmland, and open space while advocating for responsible land planning for more than twenty years. I hope to contribute value to the Land Conservancy mission through the experience I’ve gained as a farmer and conservationist.
Brennan Starkey grew up on a vegetable and grain farm near Galena, Maryland on the Sassafras River, half of which has been placed under easement. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1987 and spent two years as a Forestry and Agriculture volunteer with the Peace Corps in The Gambia, West Africa.
He returned to manage the family farm in 1990 and continues to live on the farm with his wife Pat. They have two sons. Brennan is an avid conservationist, sailor, hunter and fisherman who is passionate about preserving the agrarian landscape of the Eastern Shore.
He has served as a Board Member and former Chair of ShoreRivers in Easton, Vice President of Radcliffe Creek School, Chair of the Kollegewidgwok Sailing Education Association, and Board Member of the Northeast Center for Risk Management.
