Alexander Gilchrist

Our recent migration from Philly to Chestertown felt like coming home. My sister lived in Salisbury and Tyaskin and my youngest son lived and worked on Tilghman Island. My annual treks from New York to Cambridge, and from Philly to Cambridge and Stevensville also exposed me to the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore. I am now at a stage of life where I can focus more on things greater than myself. I am honored to be associated with ESLC, and hope I can find some way to add value to their already excellent work.

Alexander Gilchrist recently retired as an economist after 31 years of service, most of it with the federal government. He has two master’s degrees, one in International Management and one in Economics. He coordinated agricultural trade and assistance programs between the U.S. and the newly-independent states of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union at the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service, continuing this work later with a nonprofit. Gilchrist served at the FDIC identifying and monitoring economic risks to the national banking industry. Alex currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Wallace Research Foundation, and on the Town of Chestertown’s Tree Committee.
