The Sustainable Coffee Hour is a welcoming community gathering that invites residents, partners, and local leaders to sit together, share a cup of coffee, and explore key topics effecting our rural communities on the Eastern Shore.

For our next event, we welcome Caroline Better Together, whose mission reflects that same belief. As part of the Local Management Board, this group works to connect residents to one another and to essential services throughout the county, helping close the long-standing gap between rural communities and the public agencies that serve them. Much of their work centers on the idea that asset mapping is not only about creating a visual record of community resources but also about strengthening human connections, helping neighbors find one another, and revealing opportunities for collective action.

At this event, we will be joined by the Eastern Shore Regional GIS Cooperative, whose asset mapping project in Caroline County is providing a clearer understanding of the full landscape of community strengths. These maps help residents see where services are located, where gaps remain, and where partnerships can have the greatest impact. They can also help local governments make careful, strategic choices about where to invest their limited resources so that every dollar strengthens existing communities, supports residents, and enhances long term resilience.

Out of Caroline Better Together, and with support from the Governor’s ENOUGH initiative, Federalsburg Better Together will be the first community to use ESRGC’s mapping tools to gain a spatial understanding of Federalsburg’s assets and gaps.

By gathering around coffee, we build trust, curiosity, and connection, strengthening the foundation upon which a more resilient and equitable Caroline County can grow. This event is an invitation to see the county not through its challenges, but through its assets, and to build a future rooted in the strengths of its people and its place. Register below.
