What’s in that field? Wheat! And it was planted… by plane! Jeff Chorman, whose property has been protected by ESLC since 2007, is the owner of Chorman Spraying, which provides aerial application service to farmers all over Delmarva. Headquartered in Greenwood, Delaware, with 15 other airfields, Chorman Spraying provides a variety of services including the aerial seeding of cover crops, an efficient and effective alternative to sowing by tractor, and without any soil compaction.
Every day residents and visitors of the Eastern Shore drive past countless farm fields wondering what’s blooming, what’s being harvested, and what’s being planted. This year, ESLC is helping to dispel some of those mysteries with the help of local farmers. As Jennie and Tyler Schmidt explain, Jeff Chorman came and sowed their beautiful fields of wheat aerially prior to corn harvest last fall. Once the corn was harvested the cover crop began to germinate, remained dormant over the winter, and grew lush and green again in the spring right as soybeans are ready to be planted directly over top. The soil is never left bare! Always protected by leaves and roots.
