Job Title: Town Parks Intern
Supervisor: Towns Program Manager
Purpose: ESLC seeks to hire a part-time intern to conduct outreach and advocacy for public parks, accessibility, and maintenance. Focus will help municipalities adopt and implement findings from our research on land use and best practices in maintaining parks and how to better connect parks to nearby communities. This position is funded by the Janice Hollman Grant through Forever Maryland.

Job Duties: The Town Parks Intern would promote the research findings more broadly through an online Community Learning Center, promotional and educational events, and through social media. This Town Parks Intern would also assist ESLC staff on the Cannery Park Project in Cambridge, MD with a chance to implement these plans first hand.
Training/Benefits: The Town Parks Intern will have an opportunity to learn about local government advocacy, how parks are created and maintained, and the many benefits that parks bring to our communities and to our environment. In addition, those interested in exploring other aspects of conservation and non-profits management – including our Towns, Advocacy, and Advancement work – may have opportunities to work with our staff and learn about those fields. The administrative and technical skill sets gained through this internship will be highly valued and transferable to a variety of entry-level positions in the conservation community.
Qualifications & Skills Required: The ideal candidate will be pursuing an associates or bachelors degree in natural resource management, environmental studies, public policy, or a related field. The candidate should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, enjoy working with people, have an interest in the community sustainability, and be comfortable speaking in-front of audiences. Strong technological skills necessary, including webpage development. Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle are also required (reimbursement of business mileage is available).
Location: The Eastern Shore Land Conservancy is located at the Eastern Shore Conservation Center, 114 South Washington Street, Easton, Maryland. This position will be in person and some teleworking will be allowed with Supervisor approval.
Time Commitment: Internship will run 10 weeks from early June 6 through mid-August, with a flexible start and end date based on applicants’ school schedule. Maximum 20 hours per week, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Flexible scheduling available with Supervisor approval.
Compensation: $12.20 per hour
