Board Spotlight: Eric Schless

Where are you from and what is your background?

I grew up in the New York area and spent summers either at the beach or in the country. I think that the contrast of the metropolitan New York area with those summer venues made me appreciate from a young age the importance of open spaces and a healthy environment.

How did you become involved with conservation work and ESLC?

I became involved with the organization because ESLC holds the easement on the farm that we purchased several years ago. Rob Etgen asked me to join the board, which I was happy to do.

What is your favorite part of working with ESLC? What is something that you wish more people knew about ESLC?

My favorite part of working with ESLC is seeing people from every walk of life and background working together with a common sense of stewardship to both preserve and improve this remarkable geographic region. I would like to hear where the staff of ESLC wants the organization to be ten years from now.

What is your favorite thing about Maryland’s Eastern Shore?

That’s an unfair question! If I have to reduce to one thing, I would say that it is being here throughout the year and getting deeper and deeper into what each season has to offer and the rich and remarkable cultures that have emerged here on the shore.
